What I liked most about "The Outsiders" was the ending, and how it basically ended by restating the beginning. This can be considered an "AHA" moment because Ponyboy realizes that he never pays any attention to Soda's problems. Darry and I just took it for granted that he didn't have any." And I hadn't even bothered to find out, And while I was thinking about it, I realized that I had never paid much attention to Soda's problems. So that was what had been bugging Soda all afternoon. "It's the letter he wrote Sandy," Darry said without expression. Darry picked up the envelope that Soda had dropped. Oh, you guys, why can't you." He jumped up suddenly and bolted out the door, Darry and I were struck dumb. This is a Contrast and Contradictions signpost because Ponyboy would have likely ran, but he stood his ground and "meant business."Īn AHA Moment can be found on page 174, where the text reads the following: I guess they knew I meant business, because they got into their car and drove off." "I've had about all I can take from you guys." I started toward them, holding the bottle the way Tim Shepard holds a switch - out and away from myself, in a loose but firm hold. They looked kind of confused, and one of them backed up. "You get back into your car or you'll get split." I busted the end off my bottle and held on to the neck and tossed away my cigarette. We don't like nobody killing our friends, especially greasers.īig deal. "You're the guy that killed Bob Sheldon," one of them said. Conroy last year for 7th grade ILA.Ī "Contrast and Contradictions" signpost can be found on page 171, where the text reads the following. I had a little background on it since I read "That Was Then, This Is Now", also by S.E, Hinton, when I had Ms. Vogt, but I'd have to say that all of it was great. What did I like most about "The Outsiders". This moment is also an aha moment too because Pony finally realizes who he is as a human. Also, an example of a Contrast and Contradiction that there was in the Outsiders was on page 132, paragraph 6, lines 2 through 4 when Pony Boy says, "We wanted to show that we were the Greasers, tonight we could be proud of it." This is a really big contrast and contradiction moment because all throughout the book until now, Pony was this shy kid who wanted to cause no fights or harm with anybody, but now he finally changed and realized that they were the Greasers, and no one not even the Soc's could take that away from them. Stay gold." This was my favorite part of the Outsiders because this important moment of the book when Pony and Johnny were in the hospital together really made them both think back of the cherished moments they had together, and it really showed the relationship they have with each other. For example, on page 148, paragraph 11, line 1-2 it states, "Stay gold Pony Boy. My favorite part about the Outsiders was Johnny told Pony to stay gold when he was about to die. An aha moment in the Novel is on page 76 when it states “That was the first time I realized the extent of Johnny's hero- worship for Dally Winston.” This showing that even under arrest he can still stay calm and Dally will forever be a hero and protect his family and things he loves. I guess they knew I meant business, because they got into the car and drove off" This proving that Ponyboy was usually scared and let the socs take advantage of him but this time it was different the Socs were scared of Ponyboy and Ponyboy was brave and strong for the split moment. I startled towards them, holding the bottle the way Tim Shepard holds a switch out and away from myself, in a loose but firm hold. An example of a Contrast and Contradictions could be when ponyboy stood up to the Soc's for example on page 171 it states "You get back into your car or you'll get split" Another Contrast and contradiction that connects to the text on the same page 171 is "I've had about all I can take from you guys. What I liked most about the outsiders was seeing how scrawny to how strong and brave Ponyboy got, and watching all his emotions changed throughout the book.
